Overview

Our Level 1 Award in Environmental Sustainability qualification will increase your understanding and awareness of what environmental sustainability is and the impacts humans are having on the environment. You'll gain knowledge of natural resources, including renewable and non-renewable sources, the impacts of waste, energy and water usage amongst other effects, how these impacts might be reduced, and the benefits of sustainable communities. Upon successful completion of the invigilated assessment, you will receive an official certificate.


The course provides an introduction to environmental sustainability and includes: 

- Narrated video lessons 

- Activities and progress quizzes 

 - A mock practice test, complete with review facility and a bank of changing questions. 
 

The course is structured as follows: 

Section 1: An Introduction to Sustainability 

  • Exploring what we mean by the term “environmental sustainability” 

  • Identifying the three pillars of sustainable development 

  • Defining excess consumption and highlighting the problems this can cause 

  • Identifying ways that individuals impact the environment 

Section 2: The Importance of Natural Resources 

  • Discover natural resources and explain why they are important  

  • Distinguish between different types of natural resources, such as renewable and non-renewable resources  

  • Recognising the sustainability issues related to natural resources, such as overfishing, deforestation and energy usage 

Section 3: Global Environmental Impacts 

  • How goods and services are created  

  • The impacts of 

  • Waste 

  • Energy 

  • Water usage 

  • Transport 

  • How their environmental impact might be reduced 

Section 4: The Benefits of Sustainable Communities 

  • What is meant by the term “sustainable communities”  

  • The local and global benefits of sustainable communities 

Section 5: Revision 

  • Revision content, including 

  • a recap of the course content 

  • exam tips 

  • taking the end of course assessment 

You will need to pass a multiple-choice exam at the end of the course in order to gain the official qualification. This exam can be taken in one of our regional test centres, or on a laptop with a camera in a suitably quiet location. Your activity on the screen and via the webcam is recorded during the whole assessment and reviewed by the examining body.
